1 Samuel 14:29
Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey. Then said Jonathan, My father hath troubled the land: see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.
Jonathan's statement that his father had brought trouble on the land pointed to Saul's rash oath that forbade the exhausted army from eating anything while the battle was still being fought. When Jonathan took a little of the honey that God had placed in his path, the brightening of his eyes was a physical renewal that strengthened his body to go on fighting. From that experience he reasoned that if the people had been left free to eat of the spoil they had taken, they would have had strength to inflict a far greater slaughter upon the Philistines.
