1 Samuel 14:48

And he gathered an host, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.

1 Samuel 14:48 records Saul's victories, including his campaign against the Amalekites and his deliverance of Israel from its enemies who spoiled them. Because of his presumptuous offering, Saul would not have the honor of defeating the Philistines. Jonathan, a man who feared the Lord, was chosen to begin Israel's deliverance.

The campaign against the Amalekites was carried out to obey God and execute judgment, not to win personal glory or claim the spoils. It was meant to show the nations that the people who had defied God's authority were judged by Israel, whom they had despised.
