1 Samuel 14:49

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchi-shua: and the names of his two daughters were these; the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:

The verse belongs to the history of Israel from Eli to the old age of David recorded in 1 Samuel. Within that history it stands in the account of the choosing of Saul and the beginning of his reign, marked by rashness and weakness, before the Lord's rejection of Saul and his family and the anointing of David. It is part of the record of Saul's reign in which his pride and self-sufficiency led him to act tyrannically. An example of that tyranny was his sentencing of Jonathan to death after Jonathan unknowingly ate honey.
