1 Samuel 17:30

And he turned from him toward another, and spake after the same manner: and the people answered him again after the former manner.

Even after Eliab rebuked him, David kept inquiring about Goliath's challenge rather than falling silent. He turned away toward another and asked in the same manner, and the people answered him again as before, while Israel as a whole remained afraid to face the Philistine. His persistence was driven by concern for Israel and for the honor of the living God whom Goliath was defying. In pressing his questions he was taking up an answer to that defiance.

His course in doing so stands as the pattern for meeting such a challenge without dependence on human strength or self-confidence, but by trusting in God.
