1 Samuel 19:23

And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.

Naioth where this took place is at Ramah, the home of Samuel, and was the site of one of the two schools of the prophets in Samuel's day, the other being at Kirjath-jearim. The schools of the prophets were places of scriptural learning, praise, and prayer, where people prayed until the Holy Spirit rested on them and received His endowment to prepare them to carry their testimony and share the light given them with those who would listen. Saul came there while pursuing, searching for, and hunting David. He came to the school of the prophets while searching for David, and came among the prophets at Naioth while pursuing him.

The Spirit of God came upon Saul also as he went, and he went on and prophesied on the way until he came to Naioth, prophesying with and among the prophets there. When he entered the atmosphere of the school of the prophets the Spirit came upon him there. The atmosphere, setting, and voices of the prophets moved even Saul, showing God's Spirit could affect him there. His hostility toward David was restrained as he forgot his pursuit and joined them in prophesying with another spirit.

His prophesied words declared God's glory and the coming Messiah, the world's Redeemer. Although Saul was seeking David, he did not capture him, and David had to hide. Saul's change was temporary and he did not continue in it, but later returned to seeking David's life. Had Saul continued under the Spirit's influence he would have been in an excellent condition, but a temporary experience is not enough and a more lasting work is needed.
