1 Samuel 2:10
The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed. The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.
The verse belongs to Hannah's public song of praise after God granted the desire of her heart by giving her a child. It was uttered as a token of gratitude and public acknowledgment of divine mercy and loving-kindness for being highly favored of Heaven. Though by nature retiring and timid, she spoke it openly in the assembly of the people under the spirit of inspiration, sounding forth the praise of God.
It was uttered in a triumphant burst of praise before she quietly returned to her home at Ramah. She left the child Samuel to minister in the house of God under the care and instruction of Eli the high priest. It first answers the proud boastings of an insolent and contentious woman, and in that sublime and sacred song declares the humiliation of the proud and the exaltation of the humble.
Its judgments come as the outcome of God keeping the feet of His saints while the wicked shall be silent in darkness, for by strength shall no man prevail. The Lord will break His adversaries to pieces and thunder upon them out of heaven. He will judge the ends of the earth, and He will give strength unto His king and exalt the horn of His anointed.
In this it declares the destruction of the enemies of God and the complete and final triumph of His faithful servants and redeemed people. It points beyond Hannah's own time, being prophetic both of David, who should reign as king of Israel, and of Christ, the Messiah, the Lord's anointed.
