Ahimelech Gives David the Bread and Goliath's Swordby emmanuel_higgins

1 Samuel 21:9

And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

The sword that had belonged to Goliath the Philistine, slain in the valley of Elah, had been preserved as a relic in the tabernacle, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod where no other weapon was available. It was handed to David when, fleeing as a fugitive, he urgently asked the priest for a weapon for his protection. Taking again into his hand the very sword with which he had once defeated the Philistine champion, David declared there was none like it, and the grasp revived his courage.
