1 Samuel 23:2
Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah. Therefore David enquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go and smite these Philistines? And the LORD said unto David, Go, and smite the Philistines, and save Keilah.
David asked the Lord whether he should go against the Philistines, and the Lord answered by sending him to strike the Philistines and rescue Keilah. In obedience to that direction David and his men went and delivered the town from its attackers. Yet the inhabitants of Keilah, though they owed their safety to David's band, would not shelter their rescuers when Saul was pursuing David. The deliverance was real, but it brought David no security from those he had saved while he was being hunted.
