1 Samuel 23:25
Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon. Saul also and his men went to seek him. And they told David: wherefore he came down into a rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon. And when Saul heard that, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.
Saul with his men went to seek David, and when David was told of it he went down to the rock and abode in the wilderness of Maon, and when Saul heard of it he pursued David into the wilderness of Maon. That pursuit is one act in Saul's long career of wickedness recorded in 1 Samuel 14-31. It shows how a man once humble became eminent in wickedness once evil came to reign in his heart and the Spirit of God departed from him, leaving him wholly incapable of submitting to God's choice of David to take his place on the throne.
At this time David had never harmed Saul. He remained loyal to him while fleeing from him. His experience teaches that it is safe to commit one's cause to God.
