1 Samuel 24:15

The LORD therefore be judge, and judge between me and thee, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of thine hand.

David commits his case against Saul to the LORD as judge, calling on Him to judge between them. He asks God to see the facts, to plead and uphold his cause, and to rescue and deliver him out of Saul's hand and power, rather than taking revenge himself. The appeal rests on his innocence, for he had spared Saul when he could have killed him, and Saul himself acknowledged that David had treated him rightly.

David made this appeal as a shepherd lad to whom God had promised the throne, yet who was utterly helpless in himself. Trusting the word of God, he withstood Saul, the established monarch bent on holding fast his power, who embodied the power of the whole world. His stand witnesses to the power of God's word against human power and policy when they are in support of evil.
