Saul Speaks to David in the WildernessBible World

1 Samuel 24:18

And thou hast shewed this day how that thou hast dealt well with me: forasmuch as when the LORD had delivered me into thine hand, thou killedst me not.

The verse belongs to the encounter between David, a shepherd lad to whom God had promised the throne, and Saul, the established king determined to hold fast his power. In that setting Saul acknowledges that the Lord had delivered him into David's hand. He further acknowledges that David had dealt well with him by sparing his life instead of killing him when he was in David's power.

David's course in sparing him shows one who in himself was utterly helpless yet trusted God's word and withstood the power of the whole world arrayed against him. As a result of such faith, the verse stands as a witness to the power of God's word over human power and policy employed in support of evil. By that same faith David belongs to the world's true nobility and royal line, in which the youth of today are called to take their places.
