Nabal had refused to share from his abundance, and Abigail then brought provisions to David. The blessing named in the verse is those very provisions she carried to him. She presented them as conciliatory gifts, a peace-offering to be given to the young men who followed and accompanied David.
She acted promptly and decisively, and on her own without her husband's consent. Her purpose was to avert David's revenge and the harm that threatened. She did so humbly and respectfully, treating David with honor. Her piety showed naturally in her face and in her words and actions, for she knew this was the way of the Lord.
God approved her wise and respectful course. Her generous gift helped make peace. By it David was turned from taking revenge.
