Abigail Kneels Before David With Giftsby emmanuel_higgins

1 Samuel 25:30

And it shall come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;

The words belong to the time when David was hunted by Saul with no place of rest or security, just after Abiathar son of Ahimelech escaped Saul's slaughter of the priests and fled to David, who took him in with the promise of safeguard because the one seeking David's life was also seeking his. In them Abigail assures David that the Lord will fulfill all the good He has spoken concerning him and will appoint him ruler over Israel, for David was destined to rule and she trusted the Lord to fulfill what He had promised. She uses her confidence in that God-promised future to urge him to turn from vengeance and trust in God's purpose. That promised future gives David reason not to take personal revenge, for if he refrains from shedding blood without cause he will have no later grief over it and will not carry it as an offense of heart. David promised to remember her appeal when he became ruler and not to retaliate against Nabal. The encounter shows Abigail's piety through her words and actions.
