Abigail Standing by a Window with Hands on Her Heartby KalebRosendahl

1 Samuel 25:33

And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand.

Abigail met David with wise counsel offered as a respectful appeal, and her prompt action on her own in the Lord's way without her husband's counsel was the proper course. Her intervention kept David that day from coming to shed blood and from avenging himself with his own hand. The bloodshed he intended was killing Nabal and his household.

Carrying out that revenge would have been a great wrong and a great evil. David blessed both her advice and her herself for stopping him from it. He recognized that she had been sent by the Lord to meet him and restrain him from vengeance.

Her example shows that a wife is her husband's equal, sharing life's responsibilities while showing him due respect.
