Nabal Seized With Pain After the Feastby KalebRosendahl

1 Samuel 25:37

But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.

This took place while David was being hunted by Saul, when Abiathar the son of Ahimelech had escaped to David and was abiding with him in safety. By morning the wine had gone out of Nabal in that his drunkenness and drunken stupor had passed. Then his wife Abigail told him these things, telling him how his conduct had nearly brought death upon him and how close he had come to death.

Hearing this filled him with terror, so that his heart dying within him and his becoming as a stone was his becoming palsied with horror, overwhelmed by the shock. Under the shock he sat down. He never recovered from the shock.
