David's Servants Ask Nabal for Provisionsby AbiQueenie7

1 Samuel 25:7

And now I have heard that thou hast shearers: now thy shepherds which were with us, we hurt them not, neither was there ought missing unto them, all the while they were in Carmel.

This verse belongs to David's life as a fugitive hunted by Saul, after Abiathar son of Ahimelech escaped Saul's slaughter of the priests of the Lord and fled to David, who received him with promise of safeguard because the same enemy sought both their lives. It is part of the message David sent by ten young men to Nabal when he and his men were in the wilderness of Paran in sore need of provisions at sheep-shearing time, a season of hospitality.

In accordance with the custom of the times, David reminded Nabal that he and his men had guarded Nabal's flocks and herds in that region from marauders. They had done his shepherds no hurt and had let nothing go missing all the while they were at Carmel. On the ground of that protection David asked Nabal for favor and provision. The Carmel here is not Mount Carmel but a place in the territory of Judah near the hill-town of Maon.
