1 Samuel 26:12
So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul’s bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them. So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul’s bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.
By night David and Abishai entered into the very midst of Saul's encampment under cover of the deep shadows of the hills. There Saul lay asleep with his spear stuck in the ground and a cruse of water at his head, while Abner and the soldiers slept locked in slumber around him. After David refused Abishai permission to strike Saul, he took the spear and the cruse of water from beside Saul's head and got away with them. No man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked.
Their undetected escape was possible because a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen upon them all. The event shows how easily the Lord can weaken the strongest, remove prudence from the wisest, and baffle the skill of the most watchful.
