1 Samuel 27:10
And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites. And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.
David sought protection under Achish after his faith failed, without asking God for counsel. The Philistines welcomed him for selfish reasons, remembering that he had killed Goliath and hoping he would join them against Saul and Israel. In the verse he falsely reports his raids as against the south of Judah and its southern neighbors, the Jerahmeelites and the Kenites, concealing that he had attacked other peoples. The deception led Achish to believe that David had made himself hateful to Israel and would remain the Philistine king's servant. The false report strengthened the Philistines by encouraging them to think Israel was divided and weak.
