This verse belongs to the account of Saul consulting the woman of Endor. She was Satan's agent working as a sorceress. In it she hurriedly prepared a fatted calf and unleavened bread for Saul. Exhausted from fasting and shaken by the prediction of doom, he accepted the food and ate it in the sorceress's cave before the coming battle.
