1 Samuel 30:16
And when he had brought him down, behold, they were spread abroad upon all the earth, eating and drinking, and dancing, because of all the great spoil that they had taken out of the land of the Philistines, and out of the land of Judah.
The raiders were spread abroad over the countryside, celebrating the great spoil they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah. They were eating and drinking and dancing in triumph over their plunder. Their careless revelry left them exposed and unguarded. David's sudden attack therefore caught them by surprise and threw them into confusion.
