1 Samuel 30:21
And David came to the two hundred men, which were so faint that they could not follow David, whom they had made also to abide at the brook Besor: and they went forth to meet David, and to meet the people that were with him: and when David came near to the people, he saluted them.
David came back to the two hundred men who had been too worn out to keep following him and who had been left to stay behind at the brook Besor. They had remained there while he pressed on, and his return brought him again to where they were waiting. Those men went out to meet David and to meet the people who were with him as they drew near. When David came close to the people he greeted them with a salutation.
What followed that greeting settled that those who had stayed by the supplies were to share the spoil equally with those who had gone into the fight. The division was equal because the victory and what was gained by it came from the Lord rather than from human strength alone. On that ground none who had fought could rightly withhold a full share from those who had remained behind. This ruling became a statute in Israel for dividing spoil between those who battle and those who guard the supplies.
