1 Samuel 30:22
Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart.
After the recovery of the spoil, some of David's men, described as wicked and selfish, argued that those who had stayed behind should be denied any share because they had not gone with the fighting force. They proposed that each of those men should take only his own wife and children and then leave with them. David rejected that proposal and established as the rule that those who remained to guard the supplies should share equally with those who went into the battle.
