1 Samuel 30:23
Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand. Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the LORD hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.
David would not allow the men who had fought to keep the recovered goods for themselves, for the preservation of the people and the victory had come from the Lord, so what had been gained was His gift and could not be divided by selfish claiming. Those who had remained behind to guard the supplies were to receive an equal share with those who had gone into the battle. That decision was established as a lasting statute in Israel for everyone honorably connected with a military campaign.
