1 Samuel 30:24

For who will hearken unto you in this matter? but as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.

Those who stay behind to guard the supplies receive the same portion of the spoil as those who go down into the fight, and the division between them is to be alike. The equal portion does not rest on the strength or daring of the fighters but on the Lord as the giver of the victory, so that all who are honorably connected with the campaign share in what He has bestowed. This arrangement was fixed as a continuing statute in Israel, securing the same right to those who tarry by the baggage as to those who enter the battle.

In the work of saving souls the same rule applies, for those who remain at home are not left without a part in the battle. Their part is to labor for persons in their own homes and neighborhoods while upholding by prayer those who toil in other fields. As they thus guard and support the work, they share equally with those who go forth to the front of the conflict.
