1 Samuel 31:12
All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there. All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
The valiant men who acted were the men of Jabesh-gilead, who rose and traveled through the night to Beth-shan. There they took down from the wall the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons, carried them back to Jabesh, and burned them there. Their daring night rescue repaid Saul for delivering their city from its enemies about forty years before. Though the king and the princes had fallen in defeat and dishonor, the men of Jabesh-gilead gave them a burial marked by tenderness and respect.
