Men of Jabesh-gilead Bury Saul Under the Oakby emmanuel_higgins

1 Samuel 31:13

And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

The remains interred were the bones of Saul together with those of his sons, laid to rest beneath a tree at Jabesh, and the burial was accompanied by a seven-day fast. That interment came after the men of Jabesh-gilead had recovered the bodies from Beth-shan, where they had been exposed in defeat. Their daring rescue was prompted by grateful remembrance of how Saul had once delivered their city when it was in peril. In so doing they secured for the fallen king and his sons an honorable burial, restoring dignity to them despite the shame and overthrow of their deaths.
