1 Samuel 31:6

So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

The verse records the death of Saul in the battle with the Philistines at Mount Gilboa, where, forsaken by God, he faced the enemy in fear. His death was self-inflicted, an act of self-murder. It took place in dishonor and despair. That death ended his failed life as Israel's first king, because he set his own will against God's will instead of making obedience his first concern. By such conduct he forfeited the prosperity promised to a government ruled by integrity and heaven's principles.
