1 Samuel 4:19

And his daughter in law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.

The tidings that the ark of God had been taken and that Eli her father-in-law and Phinehas her husband were dead brought on the labor of Phinehas's wife, who was near to be delivered. The shock of those losses caused her death. Unlike her impious husband, she feared the Lord. As she was dying she named her son Ichabod to declare that the glory had departed from Israel because the ark was taken.

The name Ichabod means inglorious. She also connected the departed glory to the deaths in Eli's house. She felt that Israel's last hope was gone. Her anguish shows the capture of the ark was a profound national calamity, even while the ark remained the sacred symbol of God's presence.
