1 Samuel 9:10

Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was.

This moment belongs to the history when Israel asked for a king to judge them like all the nations. The demand followed dissatisfaction with the injustice of Samuel's sons as judges, who turned aside after profit, took bribes, and perverted judgment. The request was urged from discontent and pride and with deliberate purpose. No complaint was made against Samuel himself, whose integrity and wisdom were acknowledged along with his administration. Samuel felt the request as a censure upon himself and an effort to set him aside, yet he uttered no reproach and carried the matter to the Lord in prayer for counsel alone.
