1 Timothy 1:6

From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

The thing swerved from is the aim of the commandment, which is love flowing out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere, unfeigned faith. To turn aside from that love is to turn aside to vain jangling, to empty and fruitless talk. That empty talk consists in teaching different, other doctrine and giving heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions and disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. It also consists in desiring to be teachers of the law while understanding neither what is said nor what is confidently affirmed.

In application this describes thorough apostates who yield up the Bible truth that made Seventh-day Adventists what they are, treat the Sabbath as amounting to little, and claim a spurious sanctification that can accord with any false, erroneous theory. Such persons begin with criticism and suspicion toward brethren, fellow believers. They then manufacture false statements and senseless lies, detracting from faith instead of adding to it and building it up. In so doing they fail to wage a good warfare by holding faith and a good conscience.
