1 Timothy 6:21

Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

The verse warns against profane and empty talk and arguments presented as knowledge, which is a false knowledge falsely so called and includes opposition to truth. Those who profess such things err concerning the faith, being led away and turning aside and wandering from it. It calls believers to guard what has been entrusted to them and to avoid teaching that leads people away from faith.

Erring concerning the faith happens when people neglect clear truths and present duties necessary for salvation in order to speculate and dispute about matters God has not plainly revealed. Such speculation distracts them from truths necessary for salvation. It leaves them with a mixed faith. The warning in the sixth chapter of 1 Timothy is an appeal to the Wessels family to remain true to their profession of faith and choose God rather than worldly interests, applied to the example Philip and Peter set for tempted or spiritually weak family members to make their course straight and serve God wholeheartedly.
