2 Chronicles 1:5

Moreover the brasen altar, that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, he put before the tabernacle of the LORD: and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it.

The bronze altar crafted by Bezalel stood before the tabernacle of the Lord at Gibeon. The tabernacle itself remained at Gibeon even after David had brought the ark to Jerusalem, so the historic place of worship was still centered there. Solomon went there together with the congregation of Israel's assembled leaders to seek God.

Their seeking at the altar was an earnest appeal for divine help rather than a merely formal ceremony. There they offered sacrifices as they consecrated themselves to God's service.
