2 Chronicles 10:2

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

Jeroboam son of Nebat had fled from Solomon into Egypt, and his hearing of the crisis and return out of Egypt belongs to the sequence of events that rent the kingdom in two. The return set the stage for the revolt against the house of David, after which the nation was divided between rival kings. Jeroboam was made ruler over the ten northern tribes, while Rehoboam retained Judah and Benjamin.
