Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
God sent Shemaiah with a message to Rehoboam son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, including all who remained with them. The message forbade them to go up to fight against the northern tribes, who were their brethren, and commanded them to return every man to his house, because the rending of the kingdom had been brought about by God's own purpose. Those addressed heeded the word and obeyed it, turning back from marching against the northern kingdom.
