2 Chronicles 13:18

Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.

Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, while the children of Judah prevailed in the war between King Abijah of Judah and King Jeroboam of Israel. Judah prevailed over Israel in that decisive battle because they relied upon the Lord God of their fathers. When Abijah called upon the Lord, the Lord helped Judah defeat Jeroboam's much larger army.

The conflict parallels the American Civil War, with the Southern revolt under Jefferson Davis corresponding to Jeroboam's revolt. Davis's attempt to establish his government over the North corresponds to Jeroboam's attempt to bring Judah under his rule. Applied conditionally to the Union government, following Abijah's example of reliance would have already brought the rebellion to an end. That reliance meant not fighting against the God of the Revolutionary fathers by upholding Southern slavery.
