2 Chronicles 13:19

And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephrain with the towns thereof.

The verse belongs to the account of the war between Abijah of Judah and Jeroboam of Israel. In that war Judah won the decisive battle because the Lord helped them, and Israel was defeated. Jeroboam's forces suffered a great defeat at Judah's hands.

The verse records Abijah pursuing after Jeroboam and taking cities from him, including Bethel with its towns, along with Jeshanah with its towns and Ephrain with its towns. Even after Judah thus captured Bethel, its kings did not remove the rival sanctuary there or discourage its calf worship. Abijah's conflict with Jeroboam parallels the American Civil War, with Jeroboam's revolt against the united kingdom corresponding to the secession of the Southern States and Abijah's kingdom corresponding to the North.
