2 Chronicles 13:6
Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord. Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, is risen up, and hath rebelled against his lord.
Jeroboam the son of Nebat is identified as the servant and former servant of Solomon the son of David who rose up and rebelled against his lord. That lord against whom he rose was his rightful lord, ruler and king. The saying belongs to the account of the division of the kingdom, to Jeroboam's reign in Israel and to Abijah's reign in Judah, and to Abijah's appeal and war with Jeroboam in the conflict between Israel and Judah.
By this rebellion Jeroboam became king over Israel in opposition to the house of David. The rebellion was part of the northern kingdom's opposition to the Lord's covenant with David, by which the kingdom was promised to David and his sons forever. That covenant is enduring and is ultimately fulfilled in Christ as David's descendant. After rebelling, Jeroboam led Israel away from God through the golden calves.
In the war between Israel under Jeroboam and Judah under Abijah recorded in the chapter, Judah conquered and Israel was defeated. Jeroboam's revolt and breakaway confederacy illustrates the secession of the Southern States from the Union.
