So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
The Lord Himself struck the Ethiopian army before Asa and before Judah, caused the Ethiopians to flee, and gave Asa and Judah the victory. That victory was the reward of Asa's faith and came as he relied on God.
It answered Asa's prayer of faith for help. He offered that prayer even though he faced a much stronger force. Instead of resting on Judah's fortified cities and its trained, powerful army, he relied on God. He trusted that God can help whether His people are numerous or weak.
