Hanani Rebukes King Asa on His Throneby emmanuel_higgins

2 Chronicles 16:10

Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

The rebuke by Hanani the seer came because Asa had failed to rely on God and had relied on Syria for deliverance instead. Asa answered that faithful warning not with humility but with rage, rejecting God's reproof through Hanani. In that anger he put the seer in a prison house.

In that same anger over the rebuke he at the same time oppressed some of the people. The course portrays following one's own judgment contrary to the will of God, turning from the Lord and defying the Lord God of Israel after former faithfulness. The Lord will trouble anyone who turns from Him in this way, whatever his former calling may have been. He will also deal according to their works with those who exalt men who bring dishonor to the truth and spoil the faith of God's people. Medical missionary workers are now called by it to vindicate the truth, refusing to be led and guided by sophistry.
