2 Chronicles 17:14

And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.

The numbering is made according to the house of the fathers, listing the captains of thousands of Judah and naming Adnah the chief, with three hundred thousand mighty men of valor under him. This enrollment is part of the account of the men of war, mighty men of valor, who waited on the king, distinct from those whom the king had placed in the fortified cities throughout all Judah. Such a force was one element of Jehoshaphat's growing power and prosperity and of his exceeding greatness.

That greatness belonged to many years in which Judah dwelt in peace, unmolested by the surrounding nations, because the fear of the Lord had fallen upon all the kingdoms round about Judah. In that same time he received tribute money and presents from Philistia and large flocks of sheep and goats from Arabia, built castles and store cities in Judah, waxed great exceedingly, and abounded in riches and honor. That strength and prosperity enabled him to wield a mighty influence for truth and righteousness.
