Jehoshaphat strengthened the defenses of his realm by placing military forces in all the fenced cities of Judah. He also set garrisons throughout the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim which Asa his father had taken. This work of fortification and occupation secured both his own territory and the northern towns won in his father's reign. It accompanied a faithful course of rule, and under that faithfulness the Lord established his kingdom.
