2 Chronicles 18:2

And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth-gilead.

After a lapse of certain years Jehoshaphat went down to Samaria to visit Ahab. The visit brought the king of Judah into the capital of the northern kingdom and into direct fellowship with its ruler. There Ahab received and honored him with lavish hospitality, killing sheep and oxen in abundance for him and for the people who had come with him.

That feast was followed by persuasion, as Ahab urged Jehoshaphat to go up with him to Ramoth-gilead in a joint military campaign against the Syrians to recover the city. Ramoth-gilead was one of the old cities of refuge, which Ahab claimed rightfully belonged to Israel. By this visit and invitation the alliance between Judah and Israel was put into action, an alliance not in the order of God that later brought disaster upon Jehoshaphat and upon many of his subjects.
