2 Chronicles 18:21

And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said, Thou shalt entice him, and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do even so.

The declaration about becoming a lying spirit in the mouth of the prophets belongs to the episode in which Ahab's false prophets unanimously assured him of victory as he prepared for battle. In sharp contrast, the true prophet Micaiah stood alone to warn that the result would instead be disaster and the scattering of Israel as sheep without a shepherd. Both kings disregarded that solemn warning and went up to the fight, where Ahab was slain, so that Micaiah's prediction was exactly fulfilled in his death.
