2 Chronicles 18:33
And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to his chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to his chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
The bowman loosed his arrow with no particular man singled out as his mark. The shaft found the king of Israel, striking him between the joints of his armor and leaving him wounded. The wounding came in the battle at Ramoth-gilead, and that same evening the king died. In that death was fulfilled Micaiah's warning that Israel would be left without its king and would return home.
To draw a bow at a venture is to act without enough knowledge and without a sure basis. Applied to the giving of advice, it means not offering a judgment when one is not familiar with the situation.
