2 Chronicles 19:6
And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment. And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.
The charge belongs to Jehoshaphat's reform in his later years, when he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city. That appointment was one important step to bring the people from Beer-sheba to Mount Ephraim back to the Lord God of their fathers and to establish and maintain efficient courts of justice. Judges decide not for man but for the Lord, because the Lord is present with them in the judging. They answer to the Lord rather than merely to human beings or human authorities.
They must therefore take heed what they do and watch their actions closely. Their work is to be done carefully and justly under God's authority and divine oversight. It is to be carried out with reverence for God, in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and with a perfect and whole heart. That carefulness requires no iniquity, injustice, or wrongdoing. It requires no respect of persons or favoritism toward persons, and no taking of gifts or bribes. This reflects that with God there is no partiality and He accepts no bribes. Such counsel is excellent because righteousness exalts a nation and lifts it up.
