2 Chronicles 2:12
Huram said moreover, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, that might build an house for the LORD, and an house for his kingdom.
2 Chronicles 2:12 falls within the first portion of 2 Chronicles, which covers the reign of Solomon in the undivided kingdom. It belongs to the account of Solomon's call to the kingdom and his building of the temple of God. That temple building is a subject given six chapters in the portrayal of his reign, showing the temple and its services to be central to the religious purpose of the books and to their account of God's care for his people.
The verse records Huram's blessing of the God of Israel for giving David a wise son endued with prudence and understanding to build a house for the Lord and a house for his kingdom. It presents Solomon's wisdom as God-given and his temple-building work as divinely appointed. That wisdom and understanding were connected with his task of building the house of God.
The verse identifies the Lord God of Israel as the maker of heaven and earth. By that creative power it distinguishes the true God from false gods. Scripture points to the Creator in this way when distinguishing the true God, whose creation establishes the extent of his dominion and his right to rule. That description of God as Creator supports the fourth commandment's role as the part of the law that identifies God and presents his authority to rule. It is evidence that he is the one with authority to rule and receive worship, and it supports the Sabbath as the memorial of God's creative power.
