2 Chronicles 20:32
And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD. And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.
Jehoshaphat walked in the way of Asa his father and did not depart from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord. He was the greatest king the nation had seen since Solomon and the greatest champion of Jehovah, and his name means Jehovah's judgment. His loyalty to God was shown in devotion, in humility when reproved, and in seeking God in trouble. Despite generally doing right, he had a weakness for joining himself with a wicked king of Israel, to which he later gave in again, a serious mistake. After receiving reproof he showed marked faithfulness in his final days as he sought to restore the worship of God.
The setting of his reign was Judah facing a great enemy force with no strength or plan of its own, turning its eyes to God in united prayer with all the people, including families and children, standing before Him. God answered that they should not fear, promised to be with them, and called them to trust Him and His prophets.
He led his people out to a valley in the wilderness of Tekoah, where he was blessed with a victory over the hordes of his enemies without parallel in the national records. His reign was marked by a victory that was assured by faith before it was won. That triumphant day gives meaning to the valley of Jehoshaphat, where God will gather and judge all nations for His people Israel.
