2 Chronicles 21:19
And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
The verse concerns Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and belongs to the history leading to Ahaziah's reign and Jehu's rise. By marriage to the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel he was joined to the king of Israel and followed Baal like the house of Ahab. He made high places in the mountains of Judah and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judah to commit fornication, and he slew his brethren of his father's house who were better than himself. Because he did not walk in the ways of Jehoshaphat his father nor in the ways of Asa, judgment came upon him.
His death fulfills a written message of warning from Elijah, sent before Elijah was translated, declaring the word of the Lord God of David his father against him. That message foretold that the Lord would smite his people and his children and his wives and all his goods with a great plague and would smite him himself with great sickness. The Lord stirred up against him the Philistines and the Arabians near the Ethiopians, who came into Judah and carried away all the substance of the king's house with his sons and his wives. No son was left except the youngest, Jehoahaz, also called Ahaziah or Azariah.
After all this the Lord smote Jehoram in his bowels with an incurable disease. In process of time, after the end of two years, the sickness ended in his death from sore diseases when his bowels fell out. His people made no burning for him, withholding the customary funeral honor given to his fathers. His son, Jehoahaz, also called Ahaziah or Azariah, reigned in his stead.
