2 Chronicles 21:2

And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

The verse names Jehoram's brothers — Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah — as the sons of Jehoshaphat, whom it calls king of Israel. It stands at the point where Jehoshaphat was succeeded by Jehoram, and its chapter belongs to the record of Judah's kings covering Jehoram's reign.

Jehoram was wicked, his reign lasted eight years, his career was short, and his end was fearful. He had married the idolatrous daughter of Ahab and Jezebel, who led him away. At the beginning of his reign he destroyed all his brothers named in the verse.

Jehoshaphat's kindly but misdirected alliance with Ahab corrupted his household, and that alliance led Jehoram astray through his wife, with the marriage and the fratricide showing the corruption. The history of these sons forms part of the biblical record of the kings, which provides historical setting and spiritual lessons connected with God's revelation culminating in Christ.
