Athaliah Standing Over the Fallen Royal FamilyBible World
22:122 Chronicles 22:12
And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.
After Ahaziah, Athaliah seized the throne and reigned over the land as Judah's recognized ruler in its succession of wicked rulers. She came to power after Ahaziah and his brothers were killed, and she tried to kill all the royal heirs. Her wicked reign lasted seven years, and she governed harshly until the people grew incensed against her.
Joash, Ahaziah's infant son, was saved by his aunt Jehosheba, Ahaziah's sister and wife of Jehoiada the high priest, who lived in the temple apartments. He was kept hidden in the house of God, the temple, where he was safe and nourished for six years while Athaliah ruled Judah. After the people revolted and Athaliah was put to death, Joash became king at seven years old and reigned forty years.
